Solar Panel Price in Delhi 2026 — Cost per kW, Subsidy and Real Payback

Rooftop solar panels on a Delhi home showing solar panel price in Delhi

The solar panel price in Delhi in 2026 starts at roughly ₹65,000 for a 1kW home system and reaches about ₹6.5 lakh for a 10kW system, before any subsidy. After the central and Delhi government support, a typical 3kW home pays around ₹77,000 to ₹1,12,000 out of pocket. That is why Delhi is one of the cheapest places in India to go solar.

However, quotes vary a lot from one installer to another. A gap of ₹50,000 on the same size system is common. This guide explains what the solar panel price in Delhi really includes, why quotes differ, and how to work out your own net cost and payback before you sign anything.

Solar Panel Price in Delhi by System Size (2026)

For a standard on-grid system with ALMM-listed panels, a quality inverter, a proper mounting structure and net metering, these are the installed price bands we see across Delhi this year.

System sizePrice before subsidyTotal subsidy (Delhi)Net cost to you
1 kW₹65,000 – ₹75,000₹40,000₹25,000 – ₹35,000
2 kW₹1,25,000 – ₹1,45,000₹80,000₹45,000 – ₹65,000
3 kW₹1,85,000 – ₹2,20,000₹1,08,000₹77,000 – ₹1,12,000
5 kW₹3,10,000 – ₹3,60,000₹1,08,000₹2,02,000 – ₹2,52,000
10 kW₹5,50,000 – ₹6,50,000₹1,08,000₹4,42,000 – ₹5,42,000

These are on-grid prices without a battery. Subsidy figures assume a Delhi household that qualifies for both the PM Surya Ghar central subsidy and the Delhi state capital subsidy. We explain both in the subsidy section below.

Solar Panel Price Per Watt and Per kW in Delhi

Installers often quote the solar panel price in Delhi per watt, which makes comparison easier. For residential on-grid systems, the usual range in 2026 is about ₹60 to ₹75 per watt. Larger systems at 10kW come in slightly lower, around ₹55 to ₹65 per watt, because the fixed costs are spread over more capacity.

So a 3kW system at ₹65 per watt costs about ₹1.95 lakh, while a 5kW system at ₹65 per watt costs about ₹3.25 lakh. If a quote is far below ₹55 per watt for a home system, ask why. It almost always means non-ALMM panels, a light mounting structure, thin cables, or a quote that leaves out net metering.

What Decides Your Solar Panel Price in Delhi

Two homes of the same size can get very different quotes. These are the factors that move the number.

  • Panel technology: TOPCon and bifacial panels cost more than standard Mono PERC but generate slightly more per square foot. Read our guide to the best solar panels in India before choosing.
  • Inverter brand and type: The inverter is the biggest quality variable. A good 5kW grid-tie inverter alone runs ₹40,000 to ₹65,000.
  • Mounting structure: A flat terrace needs a simple structure. An elevated structure over a water tank or parking area can add ₹15,000 to ₹30,000.
  • Cables and protection: Proper DC and AC cables, earthing, surge protection and ACDB/DCDB boxes add up to ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 on a 5kW job.
  • Net meter and DISCOM liaison: Usually ₹8,000 to ₹16,000, and it should be a separate line item on your quote.
  • GST: GST on solar panels and solar power generating systems fell to 5% from 22 September 2025. Ask your installer to show the GST split clearly.

Subsidy and GBI That Reduce the Solar Panel Price in Delhi

Delhi households can stack three benefits. This is what makes the effective solar panel price in Delhi lower than in almost any other state.

  1. PM Surya Ghar central subsidy: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, so ₹78,000 at 3kW and above.
  2. Delhi capital subsidy: ₹10,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000.
  3. Generation Based Incentive (GBI): ₹3 per unit for systems up to 3kW and ₹2 per unit for systems above 3kW up to 10kW, paid for five years.

The full stack is ₹1,08,000 in upfront support at 3kW and above. For the process and eligibility rules, read our detailed guide to solar subsidy in Delhi and the PM Surya Ghar Yojana roadmap.

One caution: different Delhi government pages have shown different state subsidy figures over time. Always confirm the current amount on the Delhi Solar Portal on the day you apply.

On-Grid, Hybrid and Off-Grid: How System Type Changes the Price

The numbers above are for on-grid systems. If you want backup during power cuts, the price rises. A 5kW hybrid system with a 5 kWh battery typically costs ₹4.20 lakh to ₹5.20 lakh. An off-grid 5kW system runs ₹4.60 lakh to ₹5.80 lakh and does not qualify for net metering or the central subsidy.

For most Delhi homes, an on-grid system is the better value, because Delhi power cuts are short and net metering gives you free storage in the grid. We compare all three in grid-tied vs hybrid vs off-grid, and you can check battery costs in our solar battery price guide.

Solar Panel Price in Delhi vs Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad

Hardware costs are almost the same across the National Capital Region. What changes is the subsidy and the tariff you save against.

  • Delhi: central subsidy plus Delhi state subsidy plus GBI.
  • Gurgaon and Faridabad: central subsidy only, with an income-tested Haryana scheme. See solar subsidy in Haryana.
  • Noida and Ghaziabad: central subsidy plus an Uttar Pradesh top-up.

How Fast Does the Solar Panel Price in Delhi Pay Back?

Take a 3kW system that costs ₹2.03 lakh, near the middle of the range. After ₹1,08,000 of subsidy, the net cost is about ₹95,000.

A 3kW system in Delhi generates roughly 4,300 units a year. Even at a conservative average saving of ₹7 per unit, that is about ₹30,000 a year in bill savings. Add about ₹12,900 a year in GBI, and the total benefit is around ₹43,000 a year. That brings payback to roughly two to three years.

After that, the system keeps generating for 25 years or more. You can model your own numbers with our solar ROI calculator guide or the Solar Squad calculator.

Red Flags in a Solar Quote

  • No component-wise breakup of panels, inverter, structure and cables.
  • Panel brand is ALMM-listed, but the exact model number is not.
  • Installer is not registered on the PM Surya Ghar national portal.
  • Net metering and DISCOM liaison are excluded or hidden under “miscellaneous”.
  • A large cash advance is demanded before the feasibility approval.
  • The quote promises subsidy “in 15 days” without checking your sanctioned load.

How to Get an Accurate Solar Panel Price in Delhi

  1. Keep your last three electricity bills ready, with your consumer number (CA number) and sanctioned load.
  2. Measure your shadow-free roof area. Allow about 100 sq ft per kW.
  3. Decide whether you need backup. If not, choose on-grid.
  4. Ask at least two registered installers for a component-wise quote.
  5. Compare per-watt price, warranty terms and after-sales support, not just the total.

Conclusion

The solar panel price in Delhi in 2026 ranges from about ₹65,000 for 1kW to ₹6.5 lakh for 10kW. Subsidy and GBI bring a 3kW home system down to roughly ₹77,000–₹1,12,000, with payback in two to three years for most households. The cheapest quote is rarely the best one. Compare the inverter, structure, panel model and after-sales support, and insist on a written breakup.

FAQs

What is the solar panel price in Delhi for a 3kW system?

A 3kW on-grid system costs about ₹1.85 lakh to ₹2.20 lakh before subsidy in Delhi in 2026. After ₹1,08,000 of combined central and state subsidy, the net cost is about ₹77,000 to ₹1,12,000.

Is solar cheaper in Delhi than in other cities?

The hardware price is similar across NCR, but Delhi households can stack the central subsidy, the Delhi capital subsidy and a five-year Generation Based Incentive. That makes the effective cost lower and the payback shorter.

How much does solar panel installation cost per kW in Delhi?

Residential on-grid systems usually cost ₹60,000 to ₹75,000 per kW before subsidy. Larger systems of 10kW cost slightly less per kW.

Does the solar panel price in Delhi include net metering?

It should, but not every quote does. Ask for net meter charges and DISCOM liaison to be listed separately so you can compare quotes fairly.

Can tenants get solar in Delhi?

Generally the subsidy goes to the owner of the property and the electricity connection. A tenant needs the owner’s consent and the connection in the owner’s name.
