1kW Solar Panel Units Per Day in Delhi — Daily, Monthly and Yearly Generation

Rooftop panels showing 1kW solar panel units per day for a Delhi home

On average, 1kW solar panel units per day in Delhi come to about 4 units, which is roughly 120 units a month and around 1,400 to 1,520 units a year. The actual number changes with the season, the tilt of the panels, shading and how clean the glass is. Summer days can give 5 units or more per kW, while foggy winter days may give less than 3.

Knowing this figure helps you size a system, estimate savings and check whether your installed plant is performing. This guide gives you the numbers, a seasonal table for Delhi NCR, the factors that change output, and a simple formula to find the right system size for your bill.

1kW Solar Panel Units Per Day: The Quick Answer

PeriodTypical output from 1kW in Delhi
Per day (annual average)3.6 – 4.2 units
Per monthAbout 110 – 130 units
Per yearAbout 1,400 – 1,520 units

These figures assume a shadow-free, south-facing, well-installed system with regular cleaning. They match the numbers we use for homes across Delhi NCR. In our 5kW guide, for example, a well-installed system generates about 18 to 21 units a day on average, which is the same range multiplied by five.

Seasonal 1kW Solar Panel Units Per Day in Delhi

Delhi has four distinct seasons, and generation follows them. The table below shows typical daily output per kW. They are approximate ranges, not guarantees.

SeasonMonthsUnits per day per kWWhy
SummerMarch – May4.8 – 5.5Long, clear days with strong sun, though heat reduces panel efficiency slightly
MonsoonJune – September3.2 – 4.2Cloud cover and humidity, but rain also cleans the panels
Post-monsoonOctober – November3.8 – 4.5Clear skies, mild temperatures, but stubble-smoke haze can cut output
WinterDecember – February2.6 – 3.5Shorter days, low sun angle, fog and smog

So for a 5kW system, daily output can swing from about 13 units on a foggy December day to over 26 units on a clear April day.

What Affects 1kW Solar Panel Units Per Day?

  • Shadow: even partial shade from a water tank, parapet or tree can cut a string’s output by much more than the shaded area.
  • Tilt and direction: in Delhi, south-facing panels at a tilt close to the city’s latitude (about 28 degrees) give the best yearly output.
  • Dust and smog: an uncleaned array in Delhi can lose 10–18% of its output.
  • Temperature: panels lose a small amount of efficiency as they get hot, so a very hot afternoon does not always give the highest output.
  • Panel quality and degradation: better panels lose less output over the years. See our guide to the best solar panels in India.
  • Inverter quality: losses in conversion and clipping affect real output.
  • Grid downtime: an on-grid system switches off when the grid fails, as a safety rule.

How to Calculate the Right System Size From Your Bill

A simple rule for NCR is that each 1kW generates about 120 units a month. So divide your average monthly consumption by 120.

Monthly consumptionSuggested system size
Around 150 – 250 units2 kW
Around 300 – 400 units3 kW
Around 500 – 650 units5 kW
Around 1,000 – 1,200 units10 kW

Do not oversize. Units you consume yourself are worth the full retail tariff. Surplus at the end of the settlement year is paid at a much lower rate, as explained in our net metering in Delhi guide. For room-by-room sizing, read how many solar panels a 3BHK home needs.

What Do 1kW Solar Panel Units Per Day Save You?

In Delhi, higher consumption slabs can cost around ₹9 to ₹11 per unit after all charges. Every solar unit you use avoids buying a grid unit at your top slab first. For 1kW:

  • 1,440 units a year at ₹7 per unit saves about ₹10,000 a year.
  • 1,440 units a year at ₹9 per unit saves about ₹13,000 a year.

Delhi households may also receive the Generation Based Incentive of ₹3 per unit for systems up to 3kW, or ₹2 per unit for systems above 3kW up to 10kW, for five years. That could add around ₹4,300 a year per kW at the ₹3 rate. See solar subsidy in Delhi for the rules, and confirm the current rates on the Delhi Solar Portal.

How to Check Your 1kW Solar Panel Units Per Day Against Expected Output

  1. Note the daily or monthly generation on your inverter or app.
  2. Compare it with the expected range for the season above.
  3. Look at what happened that day: clouds, fog, a dust storm, or a power cut.
  4. If output is more than 15% below the range for several clear days, clean the panels and check for new shade.
  5. If it is still low, call your installer for an inspection.

A written maintenance plan helps you catch drops early. Our solar panel maintenance guide explains cleaning and checks, and our solar AMC in Delhi article covers annual contracts.

Capacity Utilisation Factor: The Technical Name for This

Engineers describe this output with the capacity utilisation factor (CUF). If 1kW produces about 1,440 units a year, and the maximum possible in a year is 1kW × 8,760 hours, the CUF is about 16.4%. A healthy rooftop plant in Delhi is usually in the mid-teens. If your CUF is far lower, something is wrong with shading, dirt or the equipment.

Conclusion

For planning, assume that 1kW solar panel units per day in Delhi average about 4, or about 120 a month. Expect more in March to May and less in December and January. Size the system to your consumption, keep the panels clean, and compare your actual generation with the seasonal ranges to spot problems early.

FAQs

How many 1kW solar panel units per day can I expect in Delhi?

About 3.6 to 4.2 units a day on average across the year. It can reach 5 units or more on clear spring days and fall below 3 in foggy winter weeks.

How many units does a 1kW solar system produce per month?

About 110 to 130 units a month, so most planners use 120 units per kW per month.

How many units does a 3kW solar system generate?

About 11 to 12 units a day on average, which is around 360 units a month or 4,300 units a year in Delhi.

Does a solar system generate power on cloudy days?

Yes, but at a lower level. Output on a heavily overcast day can be a fraction of a clear day.

Why is my solar generation lower than expected?

Common causes are dust, new shading, season, inverter problems or loose connections. Clean the panels first, then ask your installer to inspect if the output stays low.
